Introduction and aim

Chiesi Limited (“Chiesi”) operates from two main sites in the UK, Manchester and Chippenham.

Chiesi is dedicated to the research, development and sales of innovative, therapeutic prescription medicines in the field of respiratory, neonatology, transplant medicine and rare diseases.

Environmental Policy

We recognise that our operations result in emissions to air and water, and the generation of waste. It is our aim to comply with legislation and other requirements, continue to reduce the environmental impacts of our business and operate in an environmentally responsible manner. This policy is part of our commitment to minimising the impact of our operations on the environment to as low a level as is practically possible and describes how we will go about achieving this aim.

We will:-

  • integrate the consideration of environmental concerns and impacts into all of our decision making and activities;
  • promote environmental awareness among our employees and contractors and encourage them to work in an environmentally responsible manner;
  • train, educate and inform our employees and contractors about environmental issues that may affect their work;
  • reduce waste through re-use and recycling and by purchasing recycled, recyclable or re- furbished products and materials where these alternatives are available, economical and suitable;
  • promote efficient use of materials and resources throughout our facility including water, electricity, raw materials and other resources, particularly those that are non-renewable;
  • avoid unnecessary use of hazardous materials and products, seek substitutions when feasible, and take all reasonable steps to protect human health and the environment when such materials must be used, stored and disposed of;
  • purchase and use environmentally responsible products accordingly;
  • where required by legislation or where significant health, safety or environmental hazards exist, develop and maintain appropriate programmes and policies;
  • communicate our environmental commitment to suppliers, clients, customers and the public and encourage them to support it;
  • strive to continually improve our environmental performance and minimise the social impact and damage of activities by periodically reviewing our environmental policy in light of our current and planned future activities.

Social Policy

A harmonious workplace is important as well as good and robust relationships with external society, with particular attention to local communities. The support of these communities is essential to promote and create shared growth, by proactively working toward enhancement of the local areas in which Chiesi conducts business operations and by promoting philanthropic activities, that can contribute socially and culturally to community development.

Community engagement is a process in which the needs, the priorities and the values of individuals and groups, not necessarily linked directly with the company activities, are incorporated into corporate decisions and management activities.

We will:-

  • prioritise the health and safety of our employees and contractors;
  • support diversity and inclusion;
  • support community initiatives local to our activities in the UK;
  • engage in fundraising activities and/or make charitable donations to worthwhile causes; and
  • encourage employees to volunteer in the community.

Responsibility

This Environmental and Social Policy applies to all of our operations. Matt Wiggetts, Legal & Compliance Director, is responsible for ensuring that the policy is implemented. However, all employees have a responsibility in their area to ensure that the aims and objectives of the policy are met.

Resources

We will ensure that resources are available to enable us to achieve our objectives and targets.

Targets

To achieve our aims we have set the following targets for 2019:

  • Increase use of renewable energy;
  • Reduce transport emissions produced by travel between our various Group locations by, wherever possible, using conference call facilities at all UK locations for management and client meetings;
  • Reduce material and water use, and reduce emissions;
  • Improve waste management and recycling in all our activities on an ongoing basis; and
  • Increase the number and scope of social initiatives which Chiesi will support

Monitoring and auditing

Progress against these targets will be monitored at quarterly intervals.
